which is happening on Saturday June 1, 21013 is in it's eleventh year and is in conjunction with the Mount Albert Sports Day Spring Fair.
The two events raise money for improvements to the structure of the local community centre and park facilities. The long term goal is to double the size of the existing picnic structure and have it convertible to an outdoor covered skating rink for hockey and general skating.
The 5km course (measured by Coach Pimm, for certification) is part in-town and part in-country, over some rolling hills and finishes on a slight decline. Run clubs from around Ontario bring their athletes to Race for the Record as well as our great prizes.
Families and recreational runners and walkers make up the bulk of the race and compete for age group prizes. Of course, everyone is eligible for the tremendous amount of draw prizes!
The atmosphere is certainly a country run that is both challenging and fun for everyone. After the race, participants and their families can enjoy the Fair which has a large Vendors Alley on the closed streets as well as a full midway and petting zoo in the park.
The prices for the participants have never been increased, giving the race an incredible bang for that hard earned buck!
(Note - Mount Albert, Ontario, is about a 50 minute drive north of Toronto.)
