Magnetic Hill: A great place for hillwork?
from the desk of Coach Pimm - Nov. 1/17:
I recently visited my younger daughter, Robyn, in Moncton N.B. By the way, earlier this year, Moncton was ranked by Maclean's as the 13th top place in Canada to spend your golden years.....i may consider it for myself in another 30 years or so....
Anyway, while there I made a daring decision to join Robyn in the Legs For Literacy 10 km. Well, after basically agreeing to run together, at the bang of the gun, my loving daughter took off and was out of sight by 1 km., eventually severely kicking my butt ...not needing a memory of the race, I generously gave my race tech shirt to her BF.
But enough of that. One of the most renowned tourist attractions is Magnetic Hill, located about 15 minute outside of Moncton. I and I suspect most readers have at least heard about its reputation as being a country road that presents a giant optical illusion, making uphill appear downhill and vica versa
I admit I was dubious having run hundreds of hilly roads in Haliburton and never encountering such a situation. However, daughter was insistent, so off we drove with me biting my skeptical tongue.
Well, as it turned out, this was a real highlight of my visit while there I did my
best Steven Spielberg and videoed the experience. And I think its TIFF worthy. The video is below.
I was so enthralled by this illusion, I made Robyn drive it 4 times...such a kid...
