Coach Pimm was recently in Moncton, New Brunswick, for the National Junior Track and Field Champs – July 2 to 4/10. One of his athletes, Michael Trnkus, was competing in the 400m. Last year, Michael had been a member of the Pan American Jr. National Team, where he finished 6th in the individual 400, and was a member of the bronze medalist winning 4 x 400m team. Earlier this year at the April Penn Relays, Michael was involved in a collision that resulted in a slightly injured hamstring and which has been gradually healing since. Despite this setback, he was able to compete in Moncton where he finished 4th and he has been selected to Canada’s National Team competing at the World Jr. Track and Field Championships this week. BTW, there’s a cool picture of Trnkus and a well known sprinter (to say the least), that pops up when you do a Google Image search for Trnkus. See here. Resurfacing Varsity Centre track 06/29/2010
Those of you who live in Toronto, may have recently noticed that the University ofToronto's Varsity Centre 400m. track, located just west of the Royal Ontario Museum has resembled a construction zone, rather than the place where Usain Bolt won a 100m race, almost one year earlier. This is because the top 2 polyurethane layers, which are laid over an asphalt base, are being replaced. Today, I happened to pass by the site, and was lucky to see the final stages of this project in progress with the application of the top surface over the 1/2 inch base ....And I thought: hmmmm, I'm betting folks might find this process of interest, and so took a few pictures. Check out the pictures here. Audi Best Buddies Challenge 06/09/2010
