Hey Runners – For those of you close by to Toronto, who want to test how their winter training has been going, there’s a nice 5 km. opportunity being presented on Sunday March 13, 2011: the 12th Annual Achilles St. Patrick's Day 5K Run/Walk...and, even better, those of you who are of age can enjoy a fine brewsky afterwards  manufactured by Toronto’s own Steam Whistle Brewing company, located at the base of the CN Tower

And while sipping or guzzling your 1 or 4 brews, you can enjoy the fine entertainment of the Birling who’s music includes fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitars, harmonica, all complemented by wonderful singing.

I had the pleasure of measuring this certified fun, 5 km.(map below) which is basically, a flat, out and back route, starting at 10:15 a.m.…..nice to cheer each other while on either side of Wellington and, in keeping with the day, Race Director, Brian McLean, says, “ we always try to encourage our participants to wear green and come out and celebrate St. Patrick's Day while having a pint of Steam Whistle beer after your race.”

And it’s all for a terrific cause as the event raises funds for Achilles Canada, a non-rofit organization that provides people with various disabilities an opportunity to receive the physical, psychological and communal benefits of running. The mission of Achilles Canada is to empower athletes, through running or walking, to take control of their health, to increase their self-confidence, to become more involved in the mainstream world, and to reach their full potential.

We’ll drink to that !
